A vehicle used by a person arrested in the City of Portland for the offense
of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants may be seized and impounded. The
period of impoundment shall be sufficient to give the Bureau of Police a
reasonable period of time to determine whether the person arrested has been
previously convicted of or forfeited bail or security for Driving Under the
Influence of Intoxicants in violation of the laws of Oregon or of any other
jurisdiction, or has been previously convicted of or forfeited bail or security
for murder, manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide or assault that resulted
from the operation of a motor vehicle in Oregon or another jurisdiction. The
vehicles of persons with such a criminal record are subject to forfeiture under
state law.
